Centrophenoxine or meclofenoxate is a drug composed of two biochemicals as indicated by its systematic IUPAC name of 2-dimethylaminoethyl (4-chlorophenoxy)acetate. This drug is effective for the treatment of the symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease and senile dementia. Its individual components (dimethylaminoethanol and parachlorophenoxylacetate) are effective on there own for a number of conditions. Both the chemicals can be precursor molecules leading to the formation of acetylcholine leading to an increase of the chemical in the CNS and facilitating cholinergic neurotransmission. These chemicals also are helpful in antagonizing aging effects and improving mental functions such as cognition, memory, intelligence, motivation.
